I was intitially disappointed with this montitor. Out of the box it set up easily but the screen appeared washed out and not very crisp. I am comparing it to a 5 year old Sony of the same type that was 1024x768 resolution. My reason for replaceing the Sony is that it had no way to hook a monitor arm on the back, thus the upgrade to this model that does. The Sony was very crisp and sharp with a good contrast ratio. This monitor at the 1024x768 resolution was horribly, faded and blurry even after all my attempts to adjust it and downloading the latest software. Thus, I did have to set it to the higher 1280x1024 to get crispness, but now I have to adjust all of the font sizes and DPI settings in Windows so I can see it, since at the higer resolution, the fonts are smaller. Perhaps it is this way with all of the monitors of this size but I still love my old Sony. I am sure for most people, this will be a great choice, but I do not use it for games or videos, it is for internet, email and work related things such as Word and Excel. I tried a widescreen prior to this and did not like the non-square format. The controls on the front take a few minutes to get used to, but once you do, they are not that bad.

I had a specific need for 19" monitor that was not wide screen. I needed one that was old school 4:3 ratio. The audio editing software that I use stacks multiple tracks vertically. The wide screens that are currently so popular ended up squeezing my vertical tracks so small that I couldn't see them like I needed to. This one solved my problem. It is a ViewSonic VA926. Great picture, good looking, and great warranty. Only complaint I have is that you have no way of lowering the monitor on it's stand. I knew that when I bought it, so I wasn't caught by surprise. The only surprise I had is that Amazon got it here so quickly with their free shipping offer.

I've only had this monitor running for a couple days, but so far I'm extremely pleased with it. I just purchased a new PC with WIN 7 on it. I plugged this monitor in (cable included in purchase) and away I went. Don't see the need to even install the software that accompanies the monitor.

I very much like the 4:3 aspect ratio. I was trying hard to avoid a widescreen monitor in that I use a computer for work purposes and find 4:3 monitors more useful. This monitor fits the bill very nicely. Very bright screen with crisp graphics. Plenty of performance for my needs.
